Now this is one unique vehicle.  At first glance it looks like a FC-150 with a wrecker unit.  Actually it is aFC-170 that has been shortened to an 80" wheelbase.  Tom Bassett owns this truck and did all the modifications himself.  Tom said he generally like to keep things original but his FC-170 was too far gone to save the way it was.  Here's a quote from Tom on his one-off conversion.  Very nice truck Tom!

"I have been true blue to the 226 engine. I was planning on putting the 4-speed in my FC, but shortening the truck to match the 150 wheelbase left me with a really short drive shaft and that would require shorting again.  As it was I had to rotate forward the spring mounting pads on the rear axle to remove the sharp angle of the drive shaft that developed from pushing everything closer together. So it's the stock T90 3-speed and 4:88 axles.  There is a 10 ton bed mounted winch operated from a PTO I found in a junk yard in RI that was on a old 150. This winch operates the main cable. A smaller electric winch operates the boom up and down. Everything else  I fabricated from scheduled 40 pipe. There are external controls at the rear for operating the winch. I consider it to be a light duty, but transported a '51 Buick Roadmaster last year without any problem. I also built in a number of other systems like the 2,500 watts continuous output 120V AC power, a built in car start jumper cable system, and there are a few other such things. I have retired from my car repair business doing only limited part time work now, so the FC is just a yard truck. This summer I am installing a plow on the FC as my 1931 Ford AA truck that I plow with (Kaiser powered) is just about worn out. The FC has already taken on many of the Fords, responsibilities to date. Installing the plow and a air compressor are the last things to do to complete the FC for my needs."
