Yes, there is a definite story behind the "Tailgate Lettering" on Shane's FC-150.  You've heard the line before, "I'm from the Government, I'm here to help."  If you read this transcript below, you'll realize that some people will endure almost anything for the love of a Forward Control Jeep!

Let me tell you, what a bunch of B.S. Here is the story, I am sure you guys will get a kick out of it.

So after my friend AL had brought the Jeep down I figured I should get started on the registration cause I knew it would take a while. I found the registration I stashed in the truck a few years ago and took it to the DMV. So when I got there I showed the clerk the registration and gave her the story about how it was abandon on your property and so forth. That is when they gave me the abandon vehicle paperwork, told me to do the bill of sale/affidavit and I needed to get it inspected. I explained to them that it did not run so they told me I could pay to have a private inspection done.

So I went ahead and got the inspection done by a private inspector. Cost 20 bucks and I had to leave work early but at the time I thought it was worth it. So I got together with AL shortly after that and I gave him the MVD paperwork and the document I typed up (bill of sale/affidavit). After I got the signed and notarized papers from AL I went to the MVD the next day thinking I would get it registered. Wrong. When I got to the MVD they told me the paperwork I had done, (Mine and the MVD papers) and the private inspection were not what I needed to do. So basically it was worthless, at least that is what they told me that day. So they then said I needed to get a bonded title. However, before I could do that I had to have it inspected at MVD.

So a few weeks went by and I took the time to drive it to the MVD. It was a scary drive, almost crashed. Anyway the inspection was a struggle. Immediately when I showed up a MVD agent came out and told me they could not inspect or do any title work on a retired military vehicle that I had to go to a special office in Phoenix. Well considering it was never a military vehicle it should not be a problem, but I had to argue with the dumb ass there for 10 minutes before he understood the war was over before this thing was ever built! So the inspection was completed and I headed in to get started on the bond paperwork. Wouldn’t you know, the day I took off to go the MVD to get stuff done the computer systems were down state wide and they could not help me! Amazing! So I had to make another trip back.

So when I went in again they gave me the bonded title paperwork and went through all of the documents I would need to get it done this time. They gave me what I needed and told me I needed to write a letter to the last registered owners of the truck. The lady checked the system and said just send it to the names on the last registration. So I sent the registered letter, filled out what they needed and went back after the 15 day letter waiting period thinking I would get it registered. Wrong.

So I went in again, this time with a active 2 year old in tow and ended up spending an hour and a half and came out empty handed again. Basically the previous MVD agent did not follow procedure and did not run a vehicle report. Well the report showed a different registered owner, James Dearman. I think you bought the property from him?? So I needed to write a registered letter to him, not the people listed on the registration. I also found out I needed the bill of sale/affidavit I had you fill out that the previous agent said was worthless. Glad I kept it. So I left again with more papers to fill out and another registered letter to write.

So I wrote the letter and waited until it returned. At this point I had to return the MVD to show them I had all the paperwork and get a bond amount established. So I went in and this time after 3 agents checked the paperwork I was told I had it together and I just needed to buy the bond. The agent came back with the bond amount of $2400.00!!! I was shocked. The truck did not cost that much new. So we went back and forth for a few minutes but basically she guaranteed me it was correct. So I left to go get a bond. I get a call 5 minutes later from the MVD. Guess what, she was wrong. I guess after I argued with her she second guessed herself and double checked. The bond was $900.00, way lower. So I got to go back again to have the paperwork corrected.

I am sure you can realize how absolutely pissed off I was at this point, but it gets better.

So off to get a bond. I went to an insurance agent and told them what I was doing. The lady said she had to charge 100 for the bond but a company just down the street only charges 50. She told me where it was and I headed there. Well once I when arrived the business was vacant. So I went back to the other place and just told them to sell me a damn bond to I could get this over with. So all the bond stuff was done and ready but there was some sort of computer problem and they could not sell me the bond that day. So the agent called the other place she sent me and I found out they had moved that day, 2 doors down and did not have the office marked. So I went back there. So the bond is all done and I go to pay with Visa, they don’t take visa. No problem I had cash on me, a crisp 100 dollar bill. They did not have change. I had to leave, get change, go back and get the bond.

I am so pissed at this point I could easily kill someone with my bare hands without a problem, it gets better though.

So I am all set, I had everything. I actually had more than I needed (thanks to MVD). So I was hell bent to get it done. I had been through so much I just wanted it finished. So I went in on a Saturday to get it done. I thought I would get there early to beat the crowd, but everyone else did that too. I was about 200 people back in a line that wrapped around the building. I patently waited for 2 hours in line and finally got up to an agent. I gave her all the paperwork and watched the confusion begin. Well this lady did not know what she was doing, so she got help from another lady that did not know shit either. After about 30 minutes they told me they could not register the truck because I needed a vehicle report (which I had). I tried to show both ladies the report but they were rude as hell and would not even listen. Finally the lady said she could not help me and I needed to leave her window because she had other customers.

I lost all capacity to be polite at this point. Uncontrollably the middle finger went up and the words just came out “FU## YOU”. I then assured the agent I would absolutely not leave until speaking to a supervisor. She said the supervisor will say the same thing and you need to leave. I let her know I would leave when she came over the counter and moved me, would not happen any other way. She jumped up and started announcing that I was throwing a fit and I needed to be removed. No one helped her. Well she left and talked to a supervisor (I thought) and told me she would be right with me. So I agreed to move to a different table. Well after 30 minutes I started asking a different agent about the supervisor. Come to find out the other bitch did not even tell the supervisor. She lied to me just to get me to move!! Anyway, this is really where the story ends. The Supervisor was very polite, knowledgeable and set me up with another agent. The supervisor said I had everything I needed and there was no reason for the B.S. I had to endure.

So if you ever need to get a bonded title, don’t ask the MVD what to do, ask me instead. I know more than they do!

Well for all of you that read my MVD story about the jeep I am sure you will appreciate this.

I was pretty happy to get the registration all taken care of. I figured I would not have any more issues with legalities anyway. Wrong. I got home yesterday to find out the Police had issued me a “fix it” citation for no registration. Come to find out my neighbor 2 houses down called the city and complained that I had a non-operational un-registered jeep at my house. They even knew I was having registration issues. Since it is registered until 2008 now I think it will sit in front of my place until then.

So since they did not like the look of the jeep I decided to give it a “paint job”. I exercised my first amendment rights while I was at it.
