SPEEDS from one mile-per-hour to 30 miles-per-hour are available for crawling over rough ground or making time over smooth, flat terrain. SOFT FOREST MATTING is safe from erosion by rutting as the ROLLIGON TRAVELER climbs a mountain slope on its low pressure, flexible bags. SNOW is gently compacted into excellent ROLLIGON trails by ROLLIGON bags which smooth and improve the snow surface instead of rutting. SWAMPLAND is forded by a ROLLIGON TRAVELER carrying a two-ton payload. RAILROAD TRACKS become a wilderness trail if necessary. The ROLLIGON TRAVELER mounts or dismounts the tracks effortlessly and without jarring to deliver cargo directly to warehouse or dump.
THE
ROLLIGON* TRAVELER IS A VERSATILE LIGHT TRUCK-TRACTOR COMBINATION DESIGNED TO
PROVIDE AN IDEAL OFF-THE-HIGHWAY, ALL-PURPOSE, ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE.
It is a
high payload, maneuverable, fast, easily maintained and economical-to-operate
carrier capable of transporting cargo over rough and unstable roadless country
at an operating cost comparable to that of a conventional truck using modern
highways. As a prime mover or tractor it develops pulling power comparable to
that of a tracklaying vehicle of similar gross weight.
AS A
CARGO CARRIER The
ROLLIGON TRAVELER totes two tons of payload economically without roads at speeds
from a one-mile-per-hour crawl to a 30-mile-per-hour glide as suited to the
terrain. Four full powered ROLLIGON bags provide low ground bearing pressures
of 3 to 7 pounds per square inch for high flotation over rough or unstable
surfaces like sand, snow, swamp and rocky ground. Each bag lays down a massive
flexible tread which molds to ground contours for maximum, ground-hugging
traction in climbing. When crossing rough country, passengers, load and vehicle
are cushioned against ground shock by the ROLLIGON system of Top Loading its
bags, which converts each bag automatically into a huge natural airspring. Over
soft terrain the flexible bags gently preserve and improve their own trail
without rutting.
The
ROLLIGON TRAVELER provides an extra-large 8 x 10 stake bed for carrying
cargoes and personnel for exploring, farming, doing jobs around construction
camps and for uncounted other uses including the mounting of special equipment
like small drill rigs, ambulance and crash truck bodies, fifth wheels, etc.
AS A
PRIME MOVER AND TRACTOR
The ROLLIGON TRAVELER develops
tractive power through its ground-clinging bags comparable to an equivalent
sized tracklayer for pulling, towing or agricultural tractor work. In working
on soft sand or in loose dirt, the TRAVELER develops traction superior to
conventional tractors, and will not tear up the ground surface nor compact the
soil.
FOUR
BAGS TOP LOADED AND FULLY POWERED
(See back cover) The drive
train is designed to deliver power to each of the four bags through the ROLLIGON
exclusive Single Roller Drive system.
ARTICULATED FRAME STEERING
For
maneuverability and constant traction over rough or uneven terrain, the ROLLIGON
TRAVELER is provided with frame power-steering through an
articulated center joint between
the forward cab-and-engine section and the rear cargo section. (See front
cover). In maneuvering through close quarters, the TRAVELERS rear bags track
exactly in the path of the front bags. Over hillocks and bumps, the swivel
action of the articulated center joint permits all bags at all times to remain
flat upon the ground for positive traction.
SIMPLIFIED MECHANICAL DESIGN
The ROLLIGON TRAVELER
not only eliminates wheels and tracks, but also all conventional spring and
shock systems. This means less maintenance and repairs en transit and saving on
cost of stocking and transporting spare parts.
HIGHWAY
ECONOMY OFF-THE-HIGHWAY
The TRAVELERS rolling
resistance (or mechanical force necessary to move the vehicle) is no greater in
soft sand operation than that of most conventional trucks traveling on paved
highways (or about 3% to 5% of the gross vehicle weight.) This results in fuel
economy for the off-the-highway operation similar to that of a standard truck on
a highway.
